Safety & Environment

Safety

At H2C, our vision is to solve the Department of Energy’s largest environmental challenge, and it takes a diverse team to make this happen. We value the unique skills and backgrounds of our team members as they help us tackle the complex task of cleaning up the Hanford Site.

Our tank farm workers face a tough and hazardous environment every day. They deal with industrial, chemical, radiological hazards and must be highly trained. The protective gear they wear, like respirators and supplied-air equipment, adds to the challenge. At H2C, we are committed to “Live Safely” by ensuring our team is well-prepared and supported in their mission.

Environmental Management System

In support of its commitment to protect the environment, H2C has an established Environmental Management System, or EMS. EMS provides mechanisms for responding to changing environmental conditions and requirements, reporting on environmental performance, and reinforcing continuous improvement. This approach ensures environmental impacts are systematically identified, controlled, and monitored. Significant impacts and aspects associated with day-to-day work activities and operations are evaluated. H2C conforms to the International Organization for Standardization.

The scope of the ISO 14001 EMS includes those operations managed by H2C through its contract with the DOE’s Hanford Field Office at or near the Hanford Site, and applies to all persons doing work under its control.

H2C is committed to protecting the environment during the completion of our contract mission by maintaining an EMS that serves as a framework to ensure tank operations and related activities are conducted in a safe, compliant, and resource-effective manner.

H2C senior management fully endorses this policy statement to achieve the following goals:

Conservation: Incorporate continual improvement to maintain and enhance environmental resilience

Prevention of Pollution: Integrate pollution prevention, resource conservation, and other sustainable practices into planning, procurement, and execution of work

Regulatory Compliance: Comply with applicable legal and contractual environmental protection requirements

The Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS) is the umbrella under which H2C operates. It dictates how work is conducted and protects the safety and health of workers, the public, and the environment.
